Ive imported some clips that were originally on 8mm film and are now a good transfer.
However due to the camera used there is quite a bit of shake up and down.

So after looking at the tutorial it would seem just use the image stabilizer feature

OK so I apply Image Stabilizer only at 50% no options set and it improves the stability well but now the image is panning constantly left and right, the left and right borders move constantly, which is not like the examples in the tutorial.

what is going on?

Im using powerdirector 17 with latest patch

Unless you are experiencing an earthquake or you were on a roller coaster 50 is way too strong.
The reason you see the edges is the algorithm is moving the video image frantically to keep the image stable.
Lower the strength and pull the edges of the video image to extend a little past the frame so some is off the screen.
You will have to try different settings..

Keep in mind the more you stabilize and the more of the video that is off-screen, the more the image is degraded.
Also, if there is any camera date time imprint it will move around like a crazed jackrabbit on speed, even though the video image is stable. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)
