Importing files

Once again, I find it necessary to seek an answer to a problem.
I have several photos that I want to use to make a photoshow. I went through the laborious trouble of searching the Properties to ascertain the date taken/modified and renumbered them all from 001 to whatever so they show a timeline of my nephew/niece's growing up.
When I open PD16, clik on Import folder, all photos load but not in the sequence I numbered them. I've included a screen shot to show what I'm talking about.
Even if I select Import Files, and do them one at a time, then insert on timeline, again, they are not in order.
Am I doing something wrong? If so, please let me know. I'm at a loss on how to get them in the proper order of when taken/modified.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Thank you very much for that tip. That did the trick. Was not familiar with that option as I've never had a need to explore it. Rest assured, I've filed it for future reference.
Not done with that project. I have thousands of photos, going back to 2012, when my Nephew was born. As I'm searching through all the photos, I keep finding additional ones. Guess this is going to be a "long term" project. But, I will see it through.
Again, thanks so much for your help.
Remember all our fallen military and enjoy your Memorial Day with family. Jack

boongsong, that feature shown was not added until PD17, beta patch 2224 and later official releases so not applicable to your PD16. There is no Date Created or Date Modified feature, just Date in PD16.

The Date feature sort in PD16 might not work as you expect boongsong as it uses the date the last copy of the file was performed. So if you moved a file at anytime from say 2012 (Date Created) to a new folder PD will sort it as the date it was moved, not the actual created date. If you really want things sorted, a proper alpha/numeric name and sort by name is one option for PD16.

Yep. You are right. Still won't load in sequence.
Based on your suggestion, I should rename each clip as A001, A002, A003, or A001, B001, C001, etc., right?
Appreciate your interest and help. Jack

Yep, results as expected, no surprises there.

Any proper sequence will be fine like Axxx and even Bxxx for A representing say year 2012 and B representing 2013 is one of many options. If you need to slide a new pic in because you missed one, a A100a would come after A100 and before A101 when you sort by Name. Just don't use spaces and special characters in the name as they get a little tricky, for instance a name group of bss11.png, b10.png, bs11.png, bs10.png (I used a s to denote a single space in the file name) would be ordered:
bss11.png
bs10.png
bs11.png
b10.png

It's logical, just visually tough.

So if you use a logic that's kind of common to how one would think of sorting a group of stuff, it should work fine. Just keep in mind WIN knows no difference between "A" and an "a"!

I think the easiest thing to do is to arrange them as you like in Windows/File Explorer, then highlight them all, right click on the first clip and choose Rename. Windows will rename all of the clips in the order they're shown as name (1), name (2), etc.

See this article for more info.

Once again, I thank you very much for the info.
I tried renaming them from IMG_001, etc. to A001 and on. Worked ok.
I made new folders for the years involved, copied/pasted applicable pics to each folder. I will now go to them and rename them according to the time taken or time modified as shown in the properties.
I feel confident that I'll get this project done right, all thanks to you and your help.
Can't express how much I appreciate your help. As always, whatever I learn in the forum stays in this 78 year old grey matter. Jack

Wow!! I didn't know that option/function even existed. Man!! I can't believe all I've learned today.
Just one question. With Win 7, I always had the option to Undo something I just did (just like PD). With Win 10, I don't see that option anywhere. Is it possible to undo something, such as what you suggested on the Renaming, in Win 10 in case I screw it up (distinct reality)?
Thank you very much.

Yes, absolutely! Even if you don't see the Undo arrow/button, you can type Ctrl + Z at any point after renaming to revert all the clips to their original names. You can do other things, like work in PD in the meantime, so just keep that Explorer window open and make sure its the active window when you type the key combo.

Thank you very much for that info. Still learning Win 10. Almost an uphill climb for this old geezer. Ain't gonna give up though.
FYI and JL JL. Renumbered most clips (found more) and imported to PD. All loaded perfectly. Gotta add the new ones now. Great info in these forums. Keep up the good work. You are appreciated more than you know.
Have a great Memorial Day. Enjoy with family.
