Analog 8mm or vhs tapes output is analog, You need to purchase and use a card to convert the analog signal to a digital one suitable for a pc. Software is needed for capturing the video and audio.

I would recommend a Hauppauge or Diamond brand device for better performance if going USB route. I use Hauppauge but with a 32 bit PD12 and that opens up a whole new world of lossless capture.
