4K - Is it really beneficial?

In this 2015 article about UHD (4K) TV's Geoffrey Morrison questions the benefits of UHD/4K.

https://www.cnet.com/au/news/why-ultra-hd-4k-tvs-are-still-stupid/

So if UHD (4K) TV's are generally no better picture quality than ordinary HD TV's found in most homes is this causing a large amount of unnecessary stress for those in the domestic camera industry and video industry? Not to mention the consumers who are being convinced to part with more money for no actually discernable benefit in picture quality.

Or am I missing something here?

hi, phil.

it's an individual thing.

i had the 27" analog tv for years.

when i jumped from 640x480 30i SD to 1920x1080 30p FHD, i was still watching FHD on that boobtub.

when the 1280x720 60p HD came out and everybody was talking about 2.5K

i've jumped again to 4K 3840x2160 30p QFHD and or 4K 4096x2160 24p UHD;

however, i've waited for Sammy to get on Black Friday sale and got 46" 1080 60p FHD LED monitor/TV.

since then i've been watching 4K contents on that 46" Sammy.

downscaling 4K to FHD or HD results in maintaining excellent images...

am i going to spend couple of K on a 4K monitor/tv??? probably not.

am i going to purchase it when the 4K Blu-ray comes out??? probably not.

am i going to purchase it when the prices of 8K finally comes down??? maybe.

yes, 8K devued about two years ago and YouTube supports 8K video contents.

hoping CL implements 10 bit 4.2.2 on next PD release...

i mean anyone can stay, 720 HD, behind because it's an individual thing.

remember, Eugen157 says 4K is Awesome !

oh happy happy joy joy
