Posting Tips

Search Before Posting
Before posting, please use the forum's search capability to see if your question/issue was identified and answered previously: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/search/filters.page

Referencing Previous Posts
If you find a related post that does not fully answer your question, do not resurrect the old post by replying to it. Please start a new post, and then post a URL link to the previous post for reference. The information in your new post can be compared by forum members who will answer.

Starting a New Post
When starting a new post, please provide the following pieces of information so that users can answer your questions efficiently:

1. Which exact version of PowerDirector are you using? Patch updates are available quite regularly, and many common issues can be fixed by installing it. (Instructions for determining your version further down in this thread)

2. Provide a clear explanation of what you are trying to accomplish or the issue you face. Screen shots, comparable video examples, details about the media files you are using, and step by step instructions are encouraged.

3. Include the detailed specs of your computer when necessary. Generating a DxDiag file can be very helpful for users to help you diagnose issues. (Instructions for generating your DxDiag file further down in this thread)

Note: please remember that other forum members are volunteers, and are not obliged to help you. Do not post your issue repeatedly or with attention grabbing subject lines with phrases such as "please help" or with all caps text. Politeness, patience, and direct answers to user questions will yield the best results.

Replying to Posts
When replying to your own or some else's post, please keep in mind the following:

  1. Be polite and courteous. We are users like you trying to help.

  2. Stay on topic. Tangents can be fun, but straying off can cause confusion in a thread.

  3. Please don't reply via PM. It benefits everyone when questions are posted publicly and members can answer. Easiest way for all us to learn.

  4. Do not reply to old posts, even if you have the same or related issue. Better to start a new post and then reference the post you found.

Trouble-shooting Tips

Taking Screen Snapshots
Taking screen snapshots of your timeline or an error message can be incredibly helpful and usually get posts answered faster. If you don't know how to do this, you can follow these simple instructions on an Windows version:

  1. Load your project in PowerDirector or generate the error message you receive.

  2. On your computer's keyboard, press the "Print Screen" (Sometimes displayed as "Prt Scr"). It is usually located near the top right corner of the keyboard.

  3. Click the Windows start button and then type "Paint" on your keyboard.

  4. Click on Paint in the start menu to open the program. Click the "Paste" button in Paint, or press the Ctrl+V keys on your keyboard.

  5. Click in the top right of Paint and select "Save". Name your file and then save it in a location on your computer that's easy to find, like your desktop.

Attaching Snapshots to Posts
Once you have your screen snapshot, please include in your post or reply. To do this:

  1. When posting. click the "Attachments" button.

  2. Click the "Choose File" button and then find the screen snapshot you saved earlier.

  3. Click "Open" once you find and select the snapshot.

  4. Add a description of your snapshot to add more helpful information.

  5. Continue to finish posting your message, or click "Add another file" if you want to upload more than one screen snapshot.

Software Patch Updates
CyberLink will release updates and patches from time to time. You can choose to apply the patch/upgrade or not, but, in general, it may be best to keep PowerDirector updated to the latest build. visit:

http://www.cyberlink.com/multi/download/updates_4_ENU.html

Unless specified otherwise, you only need to download and apply the latest patch to bring your version of PowerDirector up to date.

Uninstall/Reinstall
It may be a useful step to uninstall/reinstall PowerDirector at some point if you encounter issues. This will depend on your own computer system, how and what you use it for, especially the number of software products you run/install/delete. Uninstalling/reinstalling using the inbuilt uninstaller will do no harm and may correct issues caused by conflicting software.

It is, of course, critical to carry out regular backups of projects and resources, and the use of the Project Packing option in PowerDirector is to be recommended as part of your regular backup routine.

Generating the DxDiag.txt File

For technical issues it is essential that the complexities of your particular system be known for members (and CyberLink Support where necessary) to assess. The use of a standard DXDiag file is recommended for this purpose.

The full details of what this tool is and what the file will contain can be found here:
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc938991.aspx

To Generate the DxDiag.txt File
  1. Click the Windows start button and then type "DxDiag" on your keyboard.

  2. Click on DxDiag.exe in the start menu or search area to open the program.

  3. Once the tool is open, click "Save All Information". Name your file and then save it in a location on your computer that's easy to find, like your desktop.

  4. Attach this file to in your post or reply.

PowerDirector Feature Suggestions

Suggestions for future versions of PowerDirector are welcome and can be added to this thread: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/51512.page

PowerDirector forum members have been starting their own suggestion threads for years, but going forward we are trying to better organize the suggestions for the product development team to review with this new thread. This suggestion thread will be reviewed by them regularly.

Keep in mind that most of the previous suggestions for PowerDirector 15 were reviewed by the product development team. The reason your suggestion was not implemented may be because of a resource issue, was submitted after the planning stage for version 15 had ended (and may be in version 16), or for another reason.

If you made a suggestion previously, please feel free to make it again.

We are hoping this new procedure will help to shed some light on the PowerDirector development cycle, and also result in more user suggestions making it into future versions of the software.
