Transition problems//Solved

Yesterday I opened a project. When I tried to add a transition, all I got was the circle with the diagonal and it wouldn't insert. Thinking it might be a transitory problem or something to do with my project. I shut my computer down at night.

This morning, after opening my computer, I opened PD and did not open my project. Rather I thought I'd try and insert a transitition on any video line. Same result - red circle with diagonal line.

Any ideas why I can't insert transitions? No problem inserting Titles, Particles, or PIPs.

FYI I'm using HP computer, i7 362ghz, 12gb mem, 1 TB hdd. If you need additional info, please let me know.

Thanks HDedit for your quick response.
It was 2 MVs I made earlier this week.
When I opened PD, Full Editor yesterday and today, unable to add transitions either time - once with my project and once without.

Try opening a new project and using one of the preloaded videos that come with PD (KiteSurfing.wmv). Experiment with that to see if it's something peculiar to your project. Regards,

In placing a transition between 2 video clips on the timeline by drag n drop then I get the red circle with diagonal line if I position it too far below thereby touching the audio part below. It works when I position the transition higher and then release the mouse button.

Thanks Richmond Dan and tomasc. Will try both ideas and will let you know.

Nothing works. If I drag/drop a transition to the video line, I don't get the circle/diagonal but I also don't get the transition inserted - nothing there.
Using the preloaded clips, transitions will insert on the video line.
Possibly my project videos the problem? Jack

Expand your timeline, be sure there is no gap between the videos you are putting the transition on. Carl312: Windows 10 64-bit 8 GB RAM,AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz,ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB,240GB SSD,two 1TB HDs.

ThanksCarl312 for your input.
What is on my time line is 2 video clips with no gap in between.
What I'm going to do is delete the project and redo it with the same video clips.
Have a doctor appt. this A.M., so won't be able to do anything until this afternoon (PST).
Thanks to all for your help. Will update later. Jack

Thanks Carl312. Did what you suggested and it worked. Don't remember having to do that before. Never had a problem placing the transition between the two clips.
Anyway, filed for future reference.
Thanks and have a great one.

Yep, that is one of the 'gotyas'.

If you watch the timeline as you drag a clip to the timeline, you should see a black line when the clips touch. Carl312: Windows 10 64-bit 8 GB RAM,AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz,ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB,240GB SSD,two 1TB HDs.

Yep, it was there. That's where I was trying to put the transition but apparently I was too low for it to insert. It has to be slightly above the center line.
Thanks for all your help. Glad to see you still in here. Much valuable help from you.
