New Subject Description: Erratic Audio Playback, not "Erroneous "Timeline Frame Rate Conflict"

Very frustrating:

I open a new project in PD14 Ultimate. I make sure that General Preferences frame rate is set to NTSC 30 FPS, no dropcode.

I then import an MOV clip (1280x720, 30fps, 16:9, 22.73 Mbps). All good so far.

When I drag that clip (only media in the project so far) to the timeline, I get the warning that says the 30 fps clip I'm putting on the timeline conflicts with the 29.97 fps that I have set in General Preferences.

I check General Preferences, it shows 30 fps, no dropcode.

What am I missing?

P.S. I mention this not because I dislike warnings, but because having these clips on the timeline seems to be causing my playback to be jerky (even in the lowest resolution playback, using shadow files) and for the audio in the clips to come on only after a several-second delay. And these problems persist when I produce the project in default MPEG2 format.

Don't worry about that error message. Two years ago forum members here told you to disregard it and turn off the notification in preferences to stop it from bothering you.

The 1280x720 30fps 24 Mbps clip should be able to be easily handled on a pc of the description in your signature: Win7 64-bit, Intel Core i7-4790 processor (8M Cache, 4.0 GHz), 8GB DDR3 RAM.

BTW The sample file, Windsurfing.wmv is of the same resolution and framerate but at a lower bitrate as the one you say that you are having problems with.

What is the default MPEG2 format like resolution, framerate, and bitrate that you claim here that also have the problem. I did not know that there was one. More than likely the parameters you have given for the clip on the time line is incorrect. Shadows files should not be necessary at all on your pc unless it is 4k video. Is that possible??

Sorry, Tomasc, I caused this discussion to take a wrong turn. You are correct, the timecode conflict warning has nothing to do with the problem I'm facing. Let me start over.

I put the 10-second MOV clip (accurately described above) on the timeline of a blank new project. It plays fine from the timeline. If I insert a JPG image ahead of it, the audio playback (only) of the MOV clip is unpredictable (the video plays just fine). Sometimes the audio plays back fine, sometime the audio cuts out for the first several seconds of the clip. It always plays fine if I select just the clip, but if I choose to play from "movie", it's unpredictable. I've tried disabling shadow files, but that makes no difference.

I have tried producing the "project" (just a jpg file and the MOV file...very short) and I get the same results. Sometime the audio is there, sometimes it cuts out until the last few seconds of the clip. Unpredictable.

I should note that prior to this I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10. All of my existing projects, with a mix of clips including MOV, all play just fine. I've never had an issue like this before.

No, my version indicates that there are no updates. If you look at the notes at the top of this forum (posted by Dafydd B), you'll see that Cyberlink has withdrawn the update 2527. I hope you don't discover for yourself why they did... !

Interesting. My PD14 never tells me there's updates. I am always told on this forum. There was a v2019 update sometime in September. You didn't install that either? CyberPowerPC | Win7HP-64 | AMD FX-8320 3.5 Ghz | 8GB Mem | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB | WEI 5.9

I just purchased the full boxed version of PD14 about two weeks ago. If you click on the blue bell in the upper right corner of your editing screen, it'll show you if updates are available. Mine says there aren't...?

(I had the upgrade version earlier, but returned it to get the full version, so I could have both PD12 and PD14.) Regards,
Dan

Yeah, I know. Has yours ever said there were? Like I said, PD has never told me updates were available.

There's two available. 2019 & 2302.

Just trying to help. I'm done
