Do you think a rollback to the previous nvidia driver in windows might bring the audio back. That would confirm it.

Anja the Dane - Thanks for the feedback. Newer drivers are sometimes created for the newer video cards and may have inadvertantly caused a problem elsewhere.

My guess you simple saw the effects of loading the updated HD audio driver as part of this driver package. This occurs periodically and one simply has to reset the audio settings and then you are good again with PD.

I'm not sure why the posting all these Nvidia updates anyhow with no comments/experience about PD. They are simply game ready drivers because of the flux of games for the season upon us and offer nothing for PD.

Good point. I wonder if anyone who'd had this *problem* with 359.00 can report that the issue is fixed or still present in 359.06

I've learned (the hard way) that using the Custom (Advanced) installation option and unchecking every box except the new Graphics Driver is the best approach for minimizing unwanted interactions between the unneeded nVidia compenents and PD.

Checking the Perform a clean installation box will remove the existing driver first, which can help if you've had serious problems with the current driver and/or are manually installing an older driver than what's currently installed.

I have had a further updated report, the "problem" of PDR crashing remains with both 359 and 359.06. Roll back to an earlier driver is the present suggest workaround.

Further info.
The suggested resolve of PDR crashing with the driver 359.00 and 359.06 (at this time) is to not install the "GeForce Experience" part rather than needing to roll back. The information at this time is still sparse and the suggested solution pretty "fluid" with more data to come. I'll do my best to get the data out to editors when I know more.

You're properly right - and some nVidea updates come with windows update - still - when everything works well I find no reason for update. PDR 14.0.4207.0 / Windows 10 64-bit / Asus / Intel i7-4790 3.60 GHz / 16GB RAM / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 / DirectX 12

Hi Paul,

Today I tried to update again at the end I got this error message:

*Microsoft Visual C++ error msg*

And all computer audio was missing - again.

Therefore rollback to before update - and did get the audio back.

Hi optodata,

Then I tried yours sugestion using the Custom installation option and unchecking every box except the new Graphics Driver.

This caused the wrong screen resolution and I lost the opportunity to choose 2560x1080. My monitor is an Asus PB298 (21: 9)

Therefore rollback again to before update - and did get the my screen back.

Any new proposals from any of you or dafydd?

Chers,

Anje, that's very strange because the items that you unchecked are solely for 3D, audio, automatically checking for updates, and gaming (in that order). None of them should affect the basic video driver and none of the are required to set the monitor resolution.

It's been a while since I was on Win 7 - are you saying that the Windows tool for setting the monitor resolution did not have 2560x1080 as an option? Did you try the nVidia control panel?

Also, did you get the error message you posted even with the boxes unchecked? That might be why you couldn't set the correct resolution.

optodata,

As said in my post -

First I just run update with all from GeForce Experience - did not uncheck anything - and got the Microsoft Visual C++ error message. And I lost all audio sound at computer, videoes etc. Screen resolution was OK - no changes.

rollback

Second I run GeForce Experience custom update unchecking every box except the new Graphics Driver. As shown at the image at your reply. - then I lost my 'Asus PB298' e.g. I wasn't able to get the right screen resolution - Circles were not circles but ovals and it was not possible to get a reasonable screen resolution.

therefore again rollback.

I attach two DxDiag - the 64-bit and the normal - There is a lot in the end that I don't understand and I don't know if it means anything to my problems.

I understand. Your results look very nice and this actually looks like a problem with the GEForce Experience app.

What happens if you uninstall the GEFE app first, and then download and install the 359.06 driver from the NVidia website? This time, uncheck the box for the GEFE as shown in the bottom of the window on my previous screen capture.

I would expect that the runtime error will go away and you'll have full resolution available!
