Evening folks

Quick question before I pony up and buy some video editing software - does PD13 allow me to edit at the 21:9 format natively? Specifically with the input & output resolution at 2560x1080.

I will be outputting video at this format in the near future and want to be able to edit it with ease.

Thanks

To get an output of that resolution you would have to create a custom profile and edit it manually. It's not hard to do, but I can't promise it will work correctly without trying it. __________________________________

As far as I know, Powerdirector only does 16:9 or 4:3 Aspect Ratio.

You can fit a 21:9 AR inside a 16:9 window box.

I do not know if you can even do a custom profile with a 21:9 AR in Powerdirector. Carl312: Windows 10 64-bit 8 GB RAM,AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz,ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB,240GB SSD,two 1TB HDs.

Hi Rikk -

When I've used PDR to output video with "non-standard" dimensions, I get the same thing.

MediaInfo & Properties tells me it's 2560x1080, or 1280x540 (or whatever resolution is set) but it's still displayed in a 16:9 frame. It does not display in the media player the same way the original video does. Not distorted - just boxed.

Cheers - Tony

Please note: I am not trying to hijack Rikk's thread, but attempting to clarify what happens when producing to custom profiles in PDR.

Using a "21:9" video clip - 1280x540 - and producing in PDR13 using a custom profile, the produced file is reported by MediaInfo as 1280x540 with an AR of 16:9. Side by side MediaInfo reports attached.

When played back in MPC-HC, the clips display differently. The original clip plays as 21:9, with no black surrounds. The produced clip displays with black bars.

Resized screenshots:

Aside form that, the original clip is displayed at its full size. The produced clip is displayed at reduced size. Screenshots attached (no resizing to show comparison).

When customising the Profile.ini, the only thing I'm changing is the video width & height. It may be something I'm doing incorrectly or it may be just how PDR is. I'd appreciate any clarification others can offer.

Cheers - Tony

Videos on youtube are gone already, can you please put up written tutorial to modify custom profile ini file for PD 16? will I be able to produce videos in native 21:9 (same as input video aspect ratio of 21:9) with 3440 x 1440 resolution?

The simple answer is you can't. You need different software to do it that some of us know about.

The movie trailers that I see on YT have black bars on the top and bottom as expected like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZfuNTqbHE8&t=6s . The answer on creating this look on 16:9 has been given many times. Uploading 21:9 content to YT makes no difference in the way it is displayed as a window on a pc monitor.

If you have actually seen a 21:9 movie trailer on YT without the black bars on the top and bottom then please give the link to check it out.

I have produced a little video in 21:9 aspect ratio (1920x822) (Not in PowerDirector)

https://youtu.be/LC9hE1uGL64

YT shows it with black bars on top/bottom. But I played it on my 21:9 monitor fullscreen and the video is expanded to my full monitor (ok, the 1920x822 are not optimal, it should be 1920x802, or so) - look at screenshot.
So YT handles 21:9 videos. But not in the thumbnail.

Thank you all for the feedback

Please find below link to Avengers infinity war trailer, widescreen ... proving that it is possible to produce and upload widescreen videos on youtube. NO BLACK BARS

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZfuNTqbHE8&t=32s

Another gaming video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvtPr5HBo7k

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=liGzpSy3BFY

I am watching it in theatre mode on YouTube

Just want to know if it is possible to produce such video with PD 16 with custom mod profiles? assuming you have 3440 x 1440p monitor

Make sure you are watching on 1080p screen (less than 1080p may not give you widescreen view)
