Trying to Reinstall PDR13 .. PDR13 Installs Fine .. Content Packs .. Not so Much!

I had a bit of system crash today. Last week I installed a new graphics card to fix a problem with particle effects. Today I saw in my installed programs the drivers for my old NVidia Card .. So I uninstalled those .. Well to make a long story short, in trying to get everything back up and running crisply, I decided to also uninstall PDR13, PDR12, and PDR11 .. Since I have read on this forum, there may be some glitches between the release. Last factoid, I had to do a system restore to get the display drivers to work till I could reinstall them. This apparently mucked up some stuff in my registry.

So... I installed PDR13 base. No problem. But when I install the content packs, Essential and Premium, they won't install. Each time I try to run the installer, it says they are already installed. It then asks me do I want to uninstall them, and I click YES. The program terminates pretty much immediately, and does not seem to uninstall or re-install anything.

I suspect a registry key is being tested to see if the content pack is installed. So how can I delete this key, so that I can get the packs to reinstall. Other tools have registry cleaner apps available to remove their tools values. Is there a tool like this for Cyberlink Apps? Or, does anyone know which key I would have to delete from the registry for each pack? ----------------

This kind of thing has happened to me a time or two. I generally found that the number of hours spent trying to recover will exceed the time to do an F & R (format and reinstall). Now I create disk images and can recover in a relatively short time.

You need something like the "cleaners" for previous versions. http://www.cyberlink.com/support/product-faq-content.do?id=16457&prodId=4&prodVerId=1052 I am not aware of one for v13.

Sorry I couldn't help you. Good luck.

Hi Mike,

You are right. I need this cleaner tool. Do you happen to know, if I cleanly uninstall PDR13 Base, will that reset the right registry entries?

I need to get a project done, so reinstall is not an option at the moment. I am having this growing feeling that PDR13 was rushed out way before it was stable. Bugs like this should not come up... ----------------

I've only used the trial of 13 but some of the talk on the forum makes me wonder. They got 13 out one week before Premiere 13. Maybe they did rush it?

I don't know the answer. All I can suggest is try it and run a scan with a registry cleaner.

I hope it works. Again, I am not much help but I feel your pain.

Mike,

I figured this out! Now .. I would much rather use a clean program. But since once does not seem available yet for PDR13, I guess I had to take matters into my own hands.

Each one of the .EXE files for the install package, is actually a .RAR file. Knowing this, here is what I did:

1. Copy PDR13-Content-Pack.EXE to *.RAR

2. Extract .RAR to a subdirectoy

3. Look for setup.ini in the directory, and edit setup.ini

4. Find the content pack product name, e.g. "Wedding Pack"

5. invoke RegEdit to edit the Windows Registry

6. Do a find with the content pack product name.

7. For each key that contains the product name, delete the root key. The value of this key is always one of those very long
hex string GUID strings.

8. Quit out regedit

9. run the setup.exe in the unpacked directory. (you may actually be able to run the original .EXE file, but I did not try it)

This worked for all the PDR13 content packs!

Cheers,
DB Lection
