Hi there,

I am trying to locate a script type hand writing font that I can animate across the screen, one letter at a time. Or can the same effect be made from within PD12?

Thanks

Hi

In the Text Room there are several Motion templates that simulate handwriting/typewriter Pop-up 1, Pop-up 2, Pop-up 3

As for a cursive style of font try http://www.dafont.com and search for handwriting.

Hi Ian -

The attached zip file contains a short project and a few "handwritten" fonts.

PD can't accurately replicate the look of words being written, but the PopUp motion effects come (sort of) close.

If you install the three fonts before you open the project, it will look just like it does here.

Cheers - Tony

Ian, are you familiar with Paint Designer in PD? You can actually record the actions of your writing.

If you can write with your mouse.

If you have a Graphics Tablet, the Paint Designer works better.
With a Graphics Tablet you can write as you normally would with a pen or pencil.

Further to Carl's input.
One could also use PDR12's Paint Designer/Pen/Marker set to 4 pixels and use a Graphic's Tablet to record a written action. Over laying video etc if necessary. I'd rather write with a tablet pen than the mouse

I wouldn't suggest using a desktop mouse. On my laptop, I can do a fairly decent job if I try.

Fellow handwriters -

I'm yet to see ANYWHERE an example of handwritten text, made using PD's Paint Designer, that is even moderately convincing. In fact, I'm yet to see ANY example at all.

I don't have a graphics tablet. Maybe others do & (with the right app) it may do a good job.

I just attempted to replicate handwritten text using Paint Designer & I'd be embarrassed to describe the number of steps it took to get it to look like this...

I'd love to see an example of what can be done with a tablet & PD's Paint Designer... but be very careful where the letters cross over!

Cheers - Tony

Do you have the finger touchpad that you can draw just using a stylus?

On laptop yes, PC no. PD12 is installed on PC.

Thanks to all those that replied. On my previous editor there was an effect that I could place above the text layer that would give me the result that I wanted. It was typewriter effect.

Thanks again

Thanks Rob -

I agree - that's an example! Thanks for taking the time to do it.

My little effort above was a awarded a on YouTube. I guess the viewer was unable to write anything. So easy just to click a little icon.

I'm looking forward to seeing other tablet/PD examples, but it does rely on a steady hand & a reasonable writing style in the first instance.

Cheers - Tony

Couldn't resist http://directorzone.cyberlink.com/video/13327691
Once you've finished using the Paint Designer, you'll find that you have to speed up your video or rather reduce the duration to make your animation feel as if it's happening in real time!
I do have an old GFX tablet, it's something I've been meaning to upgrade. One day perhaps

Cheers I just want to edit and make pictures, walk my dog and go fishing.

I don't have a stylus with my laptop, just my fingers. I slapped together a quick example to show that, even with my atrocious handwriting, it is possible to write using Paint Designer.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebaFt_izBA0&feature=youtu.be

I'll probably take the video down in a day or two.

Hi Ian

The Typewriter effect IS available in the Text Room there are several Motion templates that simulate handwriting/typewriter Pop-up 1, Pop-up 2, Pop-up 3

There's plenty of type face sets to choose from DaFont http://www.dafont.com/search.php?q=typewriter

Hi Ian -

How you go about it depends on whether you want the look of typed text or handwritten. On screen, they're quite different things.

For typed text, the Pop Up motion effects should work for you. For the flow of handwritten text, Paint Designer is the way to go.

Thanks Kyle & Kevin for providing those examples. I'm going to get hold of a tablet & try it with a calligraphy pen - square tipped - shaped stylus (if there is such a thing).

Cheers - Tony

Audio is also very helpful. The scratching of a pencil, or the click of a typewriter. Sound brings the audience more fully into your scenes. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

Thanks for all the hints.

I am experimenting with a title downloaded from DirectorZone - SUNRISE Gimmick1 - and modifying it to use Freestyle Script for the main title - "Sunrise Pictures" - and the default for "Presents" - MS PGothic. I am using PopupI for motion on "Sunrise Pictures" and No Effect for "Presents". I am attaching the .pds file.

How can I slow down "Sunrise Pictures"? To me it appears a bit to quick. And I would like "Presents" to appear AFTER "Sunrise Pictures". The clip is 10 seconds long. It can be a bit longer if the effects I want, need to made longer.
Any clues out there?

Thanks

No problem Ian -

In the screenshot, you'll see the motion keyframes have been shifted to slow the effect down.

Also - the starting point of "Presents" has been moved so it appears after the first title.

PDS attached (minus animation).
