Hi,

when you do an upgrade from PowerDVD 7.3 you will switch to POwerDVD 8/9/10 - in this case you will loose the HD-DVD support.

The only Version supporting HD-DVD is 7.3

it was only the required one for 7,3 (so maybe a patch is the correct term) But HD DVD play back does still not work.

it is still 7,3 (not sure of the build).

But if I understand correctly all builds of 7.3 should play HD-DVD?

Hi,
it depends.

can you please post me the full Version and the SR number of our build. Both can be found in the about box of PDVD 7 (please do not post the CD-KEY!!!)

if possible please also post the SR of your original Version before applying the latest patch.

If I understood correctly you lost the HD-DVD after patch?
Do you have an OEM (bundled with PC or Driver) or full retail version (bought in shop or online)
Did you contact customer support already?

it is a new install.

I found some new LG BD/HD-DVD drives and perfect as a back up device for my HD-DVD player.

this was after about a month of trying to get BD play back one my media PC, which i have given up on as it seems that no BD drive will work with the MOB and AMD chipset I have even though the BD advisor say it is all fine.

the BD ODD were fine when installed in an intel PC.
So what do i do build a new Media PC for this drive.
BD play is posible but poor quality and locks up ( but I have another drive for that.. But no HD-DVD play back. CD and DVD are fine.

all that happens with HD-DVD is a disapearing PowerDVD "device" on the screen and the ocasioal flash of a black screen,

PowerDVD Version 7.3

as you can see the hardware should not be an issue, also as it is playing BDs.

yes I can explore HD-DVD just no play back.

any help will be good.

PS the only other play back software is VLC. no ripping software other than what ever come with Win.7

nicklouse,

To save you having to re-invent the wheel, I'll tell you how I got on with Customer Services regarding HD-DVD playback with my LG - GGC-H20L drive under Windows 7 and using Power DVD 7.3 Ultra.

I was told that this should work and engaged in a 'very long' back and forth thread of trying different steps to get this to work. I tried various patches and various install methods (progressive patching up to newer revisions and one step patching). I also tried different versions of Power DVD 7.3 Ultra and tech support even provided the retail version to replace the LG OEM version provided with the drive but even after fiddling around with that extensively (again corresponding with Customer Service every step of the way), resulted in no HD-DVD Playback (although Blu-Ray worked fine).

In the end it just could not be made to work so in August last year I went out and bought Arcsoft Total Media Theatre which played both my Blu-ray and HD-DVD media. Not really an ideal solution because as it was Cyberlink provided software that came with the drive (bought just before Windows 7 was publically released but while the Release Candidate was freely available).

I'd like to know how you get on with Customer Services current response these days and whether you have success....

FK. thanks for that. that is what i call good feed back.

yes I know what Customer service is like. after 2 months of no BD playback on one PC (or poor playback) it actually , I found out, was an Hardware issue. BD drives and AMD Chips dont work that well together. but the drive in an Intel based PC it worked fine with the supplied software.

while all the drives tried on the AMD box had issues.

So new built, and BD is great but......

lets see what happens.

an update, Yes it is still ongoing.

I have been given full versions of powerDVD that do not have HDDVD playback as a means to fix the HD DVD playback issues, I Also hear that the versions with HD DVD playback are not compatible with Windows 7

looks like I will be spending money with some one else to fix a problem that should not be there. Or maybe I take the disc drive back as it is not fit for purpose. Well it is but the software is not. a reminder the hardware was bought less than 5 months ago.
