disc menu not available

I produced my first DVDs of home movies using PowerDirector 5. They play fine on several DVD players (one older one has a bit of trouble with it, but I can live with that) and the disc menu with the chapter buttons works fine.

However, once I have selected any chapter and the video begins to play, it is impossible to get back to the disc menu (by pressing the menu button on the remote). On some DVD players, trying to get back to the menu briefly shows a small red circle on the screen, indicating that option is not allowed, but on other DVD players there is not even that cue is visible.

If play continues to the end of the DVD, or if I skip or fast-forward to the end, the menu does reappear. However, it cannot be reached in the middle of the movie.

I could find no settings in PowerDirector to allow explicit menu access, nor references to this issue in the help system. Does anyone know of a way? Has anyone else seen this behavior? Does anyone know of a bug report on this issue?

I produced the videos on Windows XP Pro, with an Iomega super drive using TDK DVD+R media.

Thanks!

Dear Stevenson,

Assuming that we are talking about the same problem I received the following message from Customer support for your information:

"In regard to your issue, we regret to say that PowerDirector 5.0 do not support back to main menu feature. This feature is not supported by PowerDirector 5.0. "

After this message I still use PDR5.0 for capturing, editing and producing my movies. But for burning and creating menus I now use PowerProducer 3, were the "back to main menu" feature is supported.
Med venlig hilsen,

Klaus

I recently purchased PowerDirector 5 and am having the same issue. I don't have PowerProducer 3 and would prefer not to purchase another product to something that the product I have should do. Assuming that Cyberlink will fix this or re-introduce this feature in PowerDirector, can any burn software be used in the meantime to accomplish this?

Or another question I would have, if I was to purchase PowerProducer 3 to do this, how do I do it? Does PowerProducer open .PDS files created by PowerDirector?

Hi Agosta,

I too hope that Cyberlink will introduce this feature in the next update, but I am not sure as they probably not consider the lack of "back to main menu feature" as a mistake.

In PDR5 you can produce a movie from your project in different file formats e.g. AVI or MPEG-2.

These produced movies can be imported and used in menus in most burning programs as NERO or PowerProducer 3. Med venlig hilsen,

Klaus

Hi Peterson,

Thanks, I'll try that. I have SONIC DigitalMedia Plus v7 (aka MyDVD Plus). In my produced movie project, I have several chapters. If I import the produced file, will the chapters be there? I will try it. Thanks.

Hi Agosta,

I do not know if other burning programs accept chapters from PDR 5, but intuitively I would suggest that you produce more and smaller movies instead of using chapters.

How does your PowerProducer 3 work for this? Do you open or import the .PDS project file you created with PowerDirector? And what about the chapters, does it recognize the chapters you created? Can you describe the process you use in PowerProducer to create menus and burn after you are done with capturing, editing and producing in PowerDirector?

Hi Agosta,

I am not using chapters in PDR 5, but is producing more and smaller movies.

In PowerProducer 3 I import all the produced .AVI files I want to use in my project, and with them create a menu. In the menu settings you can choose "Back to main menu" .

I do not know how PP3 is reacting on PDR5 produced .AVI files containing chapters.

Med venlig hilsen,

Klaus
