Sample Projects for Testing PD Output (Video Formats, FPS Conversions, GOP Stuctures etc)

There have been a few Questions on how to assess the "quality" of various Output settings such as changes in the Frames per Second, Interlacing, GOP structures or even format choices.

To make life easier to "see" the impact of these choices, I've attached the following PD Packaged Projects that can be used for testing:
- 25fps Test Pattern
- 30fps Test Pattern
- 50fps Test Pattern

Each of these are made up of individual PNG files in a rotating clock that has a unique segment for each frame and rotates once per second with a beep at the start of each second. These are then repeated 20 times so you have a 20sec project.

To test,
1) load the project that matches the input frame rate of the media you want to test
2) output the project to the format, fps, gop structure
3) load the newly created file back into PD and then step through the output Frame by Frame and you will see what PD has done (eg what pattern it has used to change FPS, or any encoding issues, or audio/video sync issues)

Have fun!
Nathan

PS - a simple overview of FPS conversion can be found here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telecine and by looking at the "produced" footage from teh above Test Patterns you can see what pulldown pattern PD uses.

Missing Test Patterns:
- 60fps Test Pattern: Sorry, as I have never shoot in 60fps I've never created the pattern but may get around to it one day for completeness
- 24fps Test Pattern: I do have this one but as you cannot select 24fps on the timeline I have no way of creating a frame accurate PDS file. Why PD does not support 24fps on the Timeline is beyond me (as you can obviously create content in this format).

I'm sure many PD users have other test clips that would be good to share. Here is another one I use to see how PD handles 1920x1080/50p AVC/264 material. I ran a Metronome app on the PC and recorded it on the CAM. I then repeated the clip and added some titles.

This then tests how well PD can render this material including transitions, audio/video sync, smart rendering etc.

I have used these sample projects to test PD and provide feedback to PD in this thread --> http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/24689.page
