Well, I upgraded my PowerDirector 9 Ultra 64 to Version 10 (hereafter called PDR10) via download. After install, it worked great. Then a couple of days later, it started to load for about 4 or 5 seconds but stops, getting the "PDR10.exe has stopped working" message. So, after a trouble ticket (which took over 2 weeks for a suggested response) I was directed to download the latest patch (1129b) and did so. Well, it installed okay, ran okay for 2 days, and then... "PDR10.exe has stopped working" when loading. After creating another ticket, I was told to check a few things and then try a reinstall after uninstalling PD10 from control panel. Guess what.... Control panel would not let me uninstall PDR10. Really . I had to uninstall via the registry, eliminating all references to Cyberlink. Now, I am back to running PowerDirector 9 Ultra 64 again and am hesitant to reinstall, yet again, PDR 10. So to summarize, PDR 9 works great, never have a problem. For some reason, PDR 10 upgrade will install, run, but unpredictably fail to load at some point after successfully running for awhile.
My Hardware: Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, 12 GB ram, 1 TB hard drive (900 GB free), NVIDIA GeForce GT 545 with 1 GB dedicated video memory with latest driver.

HAS ANYONE EXPERIENCED THIS? Very frustrating , no good answers yet from Cyberlink support. I love the program, I just wish I could use it.

Thanks.

Hi jimgansett,
Please provide some additional information.
1. Look up the guide info: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/7958.page and provide Part B please. It's for the diagnostic files we need.
2. Please give the Customer Support Ticket reference number - I can ask CyberLink Head Office to investigate.
3. What version of PowerDirector 9 (build number) are you upgrading from. Just fishing to see if you had the latest build and in case there was a problem from that starting point.

Hi Dayfdd, Before I do all that, let me just say that when I upgraded to 10 with 1129a I had the latest build which was 3305. Later when customer support asked me to upgrade with 1129b, I first had to reinstall PowerDirector 9 (from a CD) and forgot to update to build 3305 before trying the 1129b upgrade patch. SO, my question is: Would it be worthwhile, knowing that my second attempt at upgrade was done with PD9 at build 2701? I'd hate to try it and find out that I have to go all through the registry again. Thanks
In any event, the ticket number is CS001103586

Hi Jim,
I really don't know if it would have an effect. I don't think it should but I wanted to have the info. I'll ask CyberLink to investigate the support ticket and they may then take up the contact. Whatever happens, please post a followup as that'll help other members who find themselves in the same situation (I can make sure you get sorted also).

Please can you attach diagnostic files - they'd be useful to look at and to check your setup incase an issue has been missed?

Hi Jim,

I have been having the same problem myself so you are not alone. Don't have time at present to investigate but tried everything you have and do have other things to do rather than sorting problems for the tech guys who released this buggy and not exactly cheap upgrade.

Please read an FAQ I have been made aware of recently: http://www.cyberlink.com/prog/support/cs/product-faq-content.do?id=13709&prodId=4&prodVerId=930

HI Dafydd,
First of all, I appreciate your time and effort. Thank you. I had been directed to the link you mentioned in your last response by tech support. I am going to try once more (I guess I have the time to kill it in the registry if I have to do it again!) but if it doesn't work, I may just stick with Corel Video Pro X4, also fine program and one which actually works reliably for me like PDR 9. Too bad because based on my experience with PDR 9, the Cyberlink program is better.
Having read the response from DIXXY174, it is now obvious that my situation is not unique and tech support had better come up with a cause and a fix if they want Cyberlink to be trusted software.
After I reinstall PDR 10 (1129b), if and when it crashes I will send the file(s) you asked for if I can figure out how to do that. Thanks Dafydd

Hey Geoff,
Sorry to hear about you having the same problem. It is frustrating, isn't it? It just seems strange. PDR 9 runs flawlessly on my computer. PDR 10 just will not load consistantly. Once it happens, it never loads again until reinstall.
You know, I am wondering if the problem is with the upgrade. I mean, I wonder if I were to install PDR10 as a full stand-alone program from their CD (Which, I do not have, obviously), if this problem would go away, the problem being the upgrade patch. Hmmmmm.....

Take care, Geoff

Hi all,
I did not upgrade (purchased full Ultra version) and i am having the same problem. I also HAVE followed the suggested fix at http://www.cyberlink.com/prog/support/cs/product-faq-content.do?id=13709&prodId=4&prodVerId=930
but it has not helped me (in reference to Quicktime). I will generate a support question/ticked today myself as this will be the second time that this has happened and yes the first time i had re reinstall everything.
One question you may be able to answer now though is if i re-install everything do i need to have and re-install all patches or just the most recent patch ? I guess only the most recent patch otherwise Cyberlink would have to have links available to all old patches for this version ?

This situation is VERY VERY frustrating. I am a past Pinnacle user and yeah disappointed considering how goo this product looks/looked. Hope it can get sorted ASAP.
Thanks for your help,
Johno.

Hi again, ok here is a copy of what i put in my support request.
"Hi, when i try to start PowerDirector the program crasher either before i get to the main PowerDirector interface or a few seconds after i get there.

I have Already followed the suggested guildlines in re-installing Quicktime, this has not helped. (re-installed from the quicktime installer that was from the compressed PDR10 installation file)

The Cyberlink Issue Reporter Did Not appear either.

However following the support guideline "What can I do when CyberLink PowerDirector 10 crashes?", I also tried to generate an Event log, however no Error event log was generated when Powerdirector crashed, so i cannot submit one for you.

The last time (this is the second time this has happened) this occured i had to re-install everything, this is VERY annoying and frustrating.

Please provide some help that actually works.

Thankyou,
John."

The ticket ID is:- CS001106454
Nothing else on my computers is crashing atm, this system runs stably without dramas such as PDR10 is having.

regards,
Johno.

SEE, here is an example of why it is so frustrating to work with Cyberlink tech support. Always sent to the same @$# page which, having not worked once, certainly wouldn't work the second time.
HERE IS THE LATEST: Originally, I was told that to use the 1129b Version 10 upgrade, PowerDirector 9 HAD to be on the computer, which seems to make sense since 1129b was an upgrade file. NOW, after numerous failures, Cyberlink tech support tells me that PowerDirector 9 CAN'T be on the computer, so delete it and run the upgrade. Arrrrrr......
I hate to say it, but so far I give Cyberlink tech support a 1 out of 10. And they only get the 1 because they actually answer the ticket, even though they have offered no successful solution. Well, I'm off to try their latest as mentioned above, and if it doesn't work, I'll stick with Corel Visual Studio X4 Pro because at least it actually works all the time. I prefer Cyberlink WHEN it works, that's why it's a shame.

Hi Jim,

Sorry I never replied to your post before but too busy.. Have you had any success yet with the problem we are having. Since I last posted I have had to re-install PD10 three times (very Tedious) I tried all the solutions that you have to no avail!!! so please anyone refrain from pointing me to previous solutions that have been posted before. it's a shame that a program that is so good when working frustrates the life out of me. video editing is a time consuming job in itself to get the right effect but having to re-install over and over again makes me think like you, time to migrate!!!!!!

Well Geoff,
I hate to say it, but in my experience, Cyberlink tech support has been a real downer. You know that numerous times I have tried to install, reinstall, send diagnostic files, etc. To no avail. Now, PowerDirector 10 upgrade won't even install!!!
When I try, I get the error that it can't find the transformations path (and it gives the path it expects) and will not install. Even though I checked the path and the path and file it is looking for IS there, what do I get from tech support? Send us the build and version number of PDR9 and send us a screenshot of the upgrade file which shows the number of bytes. WHY does this irritate me? I had already sent them the version and serial number of PDR9. WHY didn't they have it? Does the left and right hand know what they are doing. Is there any continuity of tech support.

In the meantime, I have been using Corel's Video Studio Pro X4 Ultimate. Although not as good as Powerdirector (it is a little slower as it is a 32bit program) and ain't half bad and does most of the things PowerDirector does, albeit in a different manner. Once you get used to using it, it really is quite good. AND, MOST IMPORTANTLY, IT HAS RUN FLAWLESSLY AND I HAVE NEVER HAD TO REINSTALL OR CALL TECH SUPPORT EVEN ONCE. I still keep PowerDirector 9 on the computer in the hope that they figure out the problem with the upgrade, for PowerDirector 9 runs great and there are a couple of things I might want to do on it.

Take care Geoff

I'm sending Power Director 10 back and going back to version 9! I give CyberLink tech support a 0-10.
