My HP laptop comes pre-installed with PowerDVD 10 with Blu-Ray support. However, when I attempted to install the latest patch for it (HP-CNB.HP_RiTA10_v2808_DVD110414-02_Normal), it uninstalled my previous installation and then gave an error message: "Error Number: 0x80040707 Description: DLL function call crashed: VerCheck.CheckVersion6 Setup will now terminate.) I have attempted a factory reset, as well as trying to install the software from HP's support site, but I get the same error code. My system specs are below; any assistance would be greatly appreciated. HP Pavilion dv6-6135dx
AMD A8-3500M APU @ 2.4/1.5 GHz with Radeon HD 6620M
6GB DDR3 SDRAM
640GB HDD
Blu-Ray/DVD Combo Drive
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit

Hi, Personally i would get onto HP as the software that is bundled with most PC's is unique to each manufacturer.
Or if you have the install discs reinstall the software, If not HP have on there web site copies of the pre-installed software.
Download the software (link for you)

Uninstall powerdvd and run a driver cleaning program, (ccleaner is the easiest to use), restart the laptop and install the downloaded powerdvd 10, dont run the update from cyberlink only run updates from HP.
Hope it helps

Anyone else have a solution to this? I just had the exact same thing happen to me. System Restores and any attempts to download and reinstall all come up with the same error as described above.

Well I was able to reinstall my OEM version tonight. I ended up trying the 11 trial installer and that went through ok. Then I uninstalled it and tried the reinstall of my OEM 10 version. That failed with same error as before.

However, I then took my vercheck.dll out of the SWSETUP\DVD2D3D folder and ran setup.exe again. It went through all dialogs just fine and it reinstalled v10.

Hopefully this will help out others and perhaps someone can get back to this post stating whether or not the trial of 11 needs to be on first or not.

OK, late to the party (problem, actually) but, thanks to Vanyun's post, I was able to install the PowerDVD 10 that I downloaded from HP's site. The secret was the comment about vercheck.dll. Here's what I did:

1. Let the downloaded program run as far as it would go (i.e. to silent install failure), then find the folder where it extracted all of the files.

2. Rename vercheck.dll to vercheck.dllx

3. Double-click on Setup.exe

4. Follow the prompts, etc. to success!
